PUNCH are the civil and structural consulting engineers for BAM Building Ltd on the new €15M D&B development consisting of a 50 Bed AAMHU and circa 238 bay multi-storey carpark at University Hospital Galway. This project is being developed by the Health Service Executive in line with the requirements of “A Vision for Change”. The development is to be constructed on a phased basis, consisting of a number of enabling works projects, consisting of services & infrastructure diversions, including the design and construction of a circa 238 multi-storey carpark to facilitate decanting of parking areas prior to the construction of the AAMHU building. The new AAMH Unit will provide accommodation for patients with a mental illness requiring mental health assessment, treatment and rehabilitation. The unit will provide a better environment for patients and will have an increased number of single rooms and therapy rooms.
The AAMHU structure consists of a two storey load bearing precast building with precast floor and concrete roof slab structures supported on a cast insitu reinforced concrete slab structure supported on CFA piles. The multi-storey carpark building is constructed using precast beams and long-span precast hollowcore units supported on pad foundations. The buildings are sited within the confines of University Hospital Galway. The entire project is being completed using REVIT for the Building Information Modelling (BIM). The building works commenced in March 2014 with works due for completion in 18 months.
