Construction is ongoing on the major extension to Block F at St. Patrick’s College Drumcondra, Dublin 9.
The project entails the construction of a two-storey (4,500m²) extension over the existing two-storey/part-three-storey library building (Block F) at St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra. The steel framed superstructure spans over the existing building with transfer floor trusses, with an arrangement of columns around the perimeter and within the internal courtyard of the existing building. The transfer trusses are typically 19m in span, with the south elevation of the building spanning over the existing lecture theatre below. The stability of the building is achieved through the three concrete lift and stair cores. The foundations are a piled solution for both individual steel columns and concrete cores.
The works also include upgrading and cladding of the existing building, the refurbishment of the existing lower ground floor to accommodate a new entrance, covered bike parking, changing facilities and plant space, as well as associated site development works.
The project is being constructed by J.J. Rhatigan & Co. and will be completed in late autumn 2016.
