Planning Lodged for €750m million Redevelopment Project in Cork Docklands

A planning application was lodged to Cork City Council on Wednesday 11th August 2010 by Businessman Gerry Wycherley for the redevelopment of Marina Commercial Park (MCP), a 24 acre in the heart of Cork city’s docklands.

PUNCH Consulting Engineers have been engaged as Civil and Structural Engineers on the project since its inception in late 2007.

Historically the site was occupied by the first Ford Motor Company factory to be located outside of North America and also by Dunlop Rubber Company.  The current industrial estate was developed during the 1990’s and today there are some 150 businesses on site.

Gerry’s Wycherley vision is to establish a vibrant, socially inclusive community within the city’s south docklands, where people will live, work and enjoy their leisure time.

The 2.5 million sq ft development includes 880 apartments, providing accommodation for 2,230 people along with a substantial quantum of space for office use, business and technology use, plus retail and commercial use.

Other features include a visitor and science centre, the “Ford Experience” a 350m long Riverside Walkway, a community park and a new central plaza including a crèche and library, an outdoor amphitheatre and public art.
