The all weather pitch, completed in 2005, required the remediation of poor waste land and PUNCH provided specialist turf consultancy services as part of our service. Ancillary works included the pitch floodlighting, fencing and goal stops. We utilized our extensive network of professional partners to bring the latest thinking in sports playing surfaces to the North West corner of Ireland. In designing the School of Nursing, the sustainable agenda was followed in all aspects of the design and the form of construction, choice of materials and the ventilation and lighting strategy were optimized to minimize the energy consumption in both construction stages and in end service. The building programme on which PUNCH participated in, providing full civil and structural engineering services, was based on the 1994 Development Plan and required careful phasing to ensure the continued smooth running of the active college.
PUNCH has been involved in a wide variety of projects on the Port Road Campus of Letterkenny Institute of Technology of Technology (LYIT). Our initial commission was for the Civil and Structural Engineering services on the highly successful Business Innovation Centre. This naturally ventilated building was designed to provide start up business with an opportunity to work closely with the college and fellow innovators to nurture good ideas into successful businesses. We were subsequently awarded the contract for the new Multi-Purpose Sports Centre and Student Centre as well as the provision of sand carpet all weather pitch. The final phase of our commission involved the design and detailing of the new School of Nursing and associated college buildings.
In following the sustainable agenda, the structure was exposed and required careful co-ordination between PUNCH and other design team members to provide a fully co-ordinated solution to meet the client’s needs.Back to Education
