Upgrade and redevelopment of this teacher training college, comprising 12,867m2 of new accommodation, 7,000m2 of refurbishment and 9,000m2 of redecoration. The new accommodation consists of lecture theatres, laboratories, classrooms and workshops.
The works were constructed in four phases and included work to a number of listed historic buildings. A major investigation of existing site services has highlighted the need to include for repair, rehabilitation or replacement.
The site is bound by Upper Drumcondra Road to the east and Milbourne Avenue to the south. The extent of the development includes the erection of four buildings namely: the Study & Learning building, the Teaching building, the Sports building and the Crèche. The curtilage of the site and selected buildings on the site are protected structures.
Due to its location on a busy city road, detailed traffic consultations were required with Dublin City Council.
This was an ambitious project with an iconic building to the front of the site to re-establish the college’s connection to the local community. Health and Safety was critical as the four buildings are at different locations on the campus and the campus must be kept operational for the majority of the year.Back to Education
