This project at Cork University Hospital was developed by the Health Service Executive in line with the requirements of “A Vision for Change”. The new purpose built 50 Bed in-patient provides accommodation for patients with a mental illness requiring mental health assessment, treatment and rehabilitation. The unit will provide a better environment for patients and will have an increased number of single rooms and therapy rooms.
The project was procured as a Design & Build Contract with BAM Building Ltd.
Located on the site of a surface carpark bounding Wilton Gardens and the Private Clinic, the new facility is accessed via the campus main entrance from Wilton Road.
The structure consists of a two storey load bearing masonry building with precast floor and roof slab structures. The building is sited on a 425mm cast insitu ground floor transfer slab which is over a single storey basement carpark consisting of 142 spaces.
The nature of the basement structure is such that the temporary works required to the north elevation along Wilton Gardens included the introduction of a piled kingpost cantilevered retaining structure to retain the embankment during excavation works. The basement carpark structure is designed as a Grade 2 Water Retaining concrete basement.
The entire project is being completed using Building Information Modelling (BIM).Back to Healthcare
