PUNCH Consulting Engineers has been providing structural engineering services since the formation of the company in 1973. Structural engineering, like many other branches of engineering, has become heavily reliant on computers, and the analytical possibilities that they bring. PUNCH has always maintained IT systems that are second to none, and we use cutting-edge computer software for analysis and design such as RAM, CADS Analyse 3D and STRAP. This allows detailed analysis and design of structural forces and properties, which can help us to push the boundaries of what is possible in steel, concrete, timber and glass.

In simple terms, Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a 3D virtual model of buildings where each element in the model can be separately identified and have data attached to it, effectively creating a smart model of the building. This model can then be queried in both a "visual" and a "numerical" way. Models are developed by the design team working collaboratively. BIM modelling of buildings provides great advantages for design teams, builders, and clients alike at all stages of a project – from design through to construction and into the facilities management phase.
We work with the Autodesk REVIT software suite to develop BIM models. Our procedures and documentation are developed to align with BS1192:2007, PAS 1192:2 and BS1192:4. Where provided we can address the requirements of Employers Information Requirements as outlined in PAS 1192:3.

Structural engineering is a core discipline of PUNCH Consulting Engineers and many of the other services offered by the company require input from our structural team at various stages of a project. For example, our PUNCH Conservation engineers require an excellent ‘first principles’ understanding of structural engineering, to allow sound engineering principles to be applied to difficult or unusual buildings.
