Project Description

PUNCH Consulting Engineers were appointed to carry out a site specific Stage 3 Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) Study for a proposed warehouse development in Baldonnell, Co. Dublin.

The site of the proposed development is located in an area considered to be at risk from flooding from the local Camac River. To understand the flooding mechanisms, a 1d-2d linked Flood Modeller-TuFLOW model was constructed. Ground models for the 2d domain were developed from a combination of detailed topographical surveys and LiDAR.

The hydraulic model simulated the flows across the flood plain and around the site of the proposed development. Embankments and areas of fill were modelled in TuFLOW to identify the ground works required to raise the proposed development above the 1:100 year flood level. An analysis in TuFLOW of flow paths and water levels demonstrated that the development did not influence flood risk elsewhere.
