Project Description

PUNCH was engaged for the procurement and administration of a dredging works contract for Kerry County Council to maintain depths of water which are needed for safe navigation in the commercial harbour at Fenit, Co Kerry.

The commercial harbour is primarily used by large vessels exporting Liebherr cranes which are manufactured in Killarney Co Kerry.

Almost 60,000 cubic metres of sediment was dredged from the harbour and dumped at sea in compliance with Foreshore Licence and Dumping at Sea Permit conditions.

The works were executed under significant environmental constraints including maintenance of water quality for nearby public bathing and for oyster farming, which limit the dredging window to Feb-April each year.

The dredging and dumping was also be carried out under the supervision of a Marine Mammal Observer to ensure the protection of marine mammals during the works.
