Project Description

PUNCH provided Civil and Structural Engineering and PSDP services for this 2,500m2 software development facility which won the coveted Industrial Project of the Year award at the Irish Construction Industry Awards 2018.

The building is located next to the existing Pilz Ireland building and doubles the capacity of the overall Pilz campus in the Cork Business and Technology Park.

The new software development centre provides Pilz with the capacity to expand its current portfolio of automation systems while developing its technologies around internet of things (IoT), analytics and new software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications.

The developemt is located on former Department of Agriculture lands adjacent to the exiting Cork Business and Technology Park. The completed development has been integrated with with the existing Pilz facility and now forms an extension to the Technology Park.

The building contains a semi basement with a retaining wall along one side of the lower ground floor level to cater for the sloping topography of the site. The structure is constructed from an in-situ concrete frame including flat slabs, columns and reinforced concrete core walls. The building has also been designed to facilitate the construction of a further wing in the future to increase the overall accommodation to 4000m2.

The overall development encompased significant site works including new parking areas, pedestrian pathways to link the new building to the existing adjoining buildings and the inclusion of a new off-line bus stop on the model farm road to provide an enhanced bus service for employees.
