Technical Director - Ecologist

PUNCH Consulting Engineers have a vacancy for a Technical Director – Ecologist to champion our Ecology Service Offering. We are looking for a Senior Ecologist who can deliver on our project workload while growing this service offering for PUNCH. The candidate will work as an integral member of our Senior Management Team, contributing to the growth and development of the company into the future.


Job Description:

As a Technical Director – Ecologist, you will be part of the senior management team, reporting to the board of directors. You will be working on the delivery of project workload secured within our departments, with responsibility for the technical, managerial and commercial aspects of your projects. A major element of the role is the expanding of this service offering for the company including business development and tendering of projects.

  • Managing individual contracts to deliver high quality ecological consultancy services
  • Providing expert ecological input for a range of projects
  • Planning, conducting and supervising the execution of site ecological surveys and fieldwork
  • Undertaking Appropriate Assessments and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Biodiversity Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs) and other environmental reporting requirements
  • Preparing and monitoring of the implementation of Construction Environmental Management Plans
  • Writing of technical reports and other deliverables
  • Providing expert witness at Oral Hearings
  • Tender for and growing the portfolio of PUNCH Ecology service offering.

Candidate Specification:

  • A degree in ecology or related subject with a minimum of 15 years post graduate experience in environmental consultancy.
  • Member of CIEEM, CIWEM or equivalent professional body
  • Detailed knowledge of wildlife and conservation legislation within Ireland
  • Leadership skills to plan, manage and direct human, material and financial resources required to work within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • High level of commercial understanding and application.
  • Develop the technical, commercial and management skills of staff that report to you through mentoring, delegation and training.
  • Unite and motivate the staff that report to you through leadership, mutual respect, honest communication and hard work.
  • Develop new business in agreed market sectors and achieve delivery targets set.
  • Work to ensure business targets are achieved.
  • Enhance company profile and assist the Board of Directors in the promotion of the strategic plan.
