Project Description
The first purpose-built Irish law school, the 3-storey 6,117m2 Law Building sits within UCD’s landmark Gateway Development.
On the ground floor, the Moot Court functions as an open communal area, while a 10m x 10m concrete transfer slab supports office space in the upper two stories, with a 5m cantilevered projection at the front facade. The central three-storey high atrium area and three lecture theatres, with overall capacity of 620 seats, are constructed in structural steel, allowing for large open spans. Two concrete ‘hanging’ stairs at the rear of the building are suspended from roof level.
In order to ensure minimal impact on the overall campus, the construction works were split into separate phases. A substantial civils works contract comprised the first phase of this Gateway project, with diversions of existing services and roadways to accommodate the new campus layout.
