FAQ

  • A minimum of 3 years completed of an undergraduate Civil/Structural Engineering Degree programme
  • Prior experience (Internship / summer placement) within an Engineering or related industry is advantageous
  • Evidence of drive and determination

Internships generally run from January to August or for Post Graduate Students June to December.

Yes, PUNCH also facilitates 3rd year students with 3-month summer Internships.

PUNCH has over 125 staff across our 4 offices in Ireland and Glasgow in Scotland.

As an engineering Intern you will work with an experienced team of engineers and technicians on a broad range of civil and structural engineering projects all over the country

You will be empowered to carry out site inspections and check designs , all in the company of more senior staff.

  • An understanding of the engineering principles behind drainage, roads and water system design.
  • An understanding of the engineering principles behind structural design.
  • Experience in compiling engineering planning documentation for major projects.
  • Experience of producing Flood Risk Assessments.
  • Familiarity with DMURS.
  • Traffic analysis experience.
  • IT skills – including MS Word, Excel, basic AutoCAD skills + company design software packages including Civils 3D, Causeway Flow, MicroDrainage, TRICs, Tuflow, HEC-RAS, EPANet.
  • The ability to identify and apply appropriate scientific methods to solve engineering problems.
  • Understanding of the Irish regulatory and policy issues.
  • Appreciation of the full Project Delivery Process including GCCC Contracts.
  • Awareness/Knowledge of costing and options appraisal.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how projects are financed and how funds are obtained and managed.

We also recognise the need for junior staff to be present in the office to a greater degree than more senior staff, to facilitate their training and development and general intellectual knowledge of the company. This also requires senior staff to be present in the office to provide that essential in-person mentoring and training in both a direct and indirect manner.
