Testimonials
“I have had a fantastic time with PUNCH over the last 8 months. I have gotten amazing experience and learned many skills. Within PUNCH, there is a wide array of projects and work types. Gaining experience in Precast, Structures, Civils and getting out to site made for a varied and fresh workload.
The work environment was a perfect mid-point between being relaxed, yet fast-paced. The workload felt like it was precisely calculated so there was never any unnecessary stress, but also pushed me to be productive and always advancing. Having an experienced team and a plethora of technology and software behind you, makes advancing and developing not only attainable, but a natural progression.
The flexitime system was fantastic also, as work never impeded on personal/home responsibilities.
I would highly, highly recommend working with PUNCH if given the opportunity.”
“My experience at PUNCH was very positive and allowed me to get a taste for all aspects of Civil Engineering. I was exposed to water and wastewater design, roads, traffic & transport, flood risks, liaising with clients, site visits, inspections and report writing. After my time at PUNCH, I have added various new software to my CV including drainage modelling, traffic modelling, Civil 3D/ Smart tools, GIS software & more. The training provided by PUNCH was very high quality, and the inhouse seminars were interesting. The staff in the Cork office are extremely friendly, helpful and inclusive, and I had lots of one-to-one mentoring. It felt great to work alongside the other staff on projects and be given a variety of tasks. It was easy to communicate across the company and there was plenty of knowledge sharing across the offices. I have gained a lot of experience from my time here in PUNCH in just 3 months and had a great time.”
From large government infrastructure to local commercial extensions, preliminary design to extensions, the range of projects that I got to work on at PUNCH couldn’t have varied more. I got to attend inhouse seminars from industry professionals that gave insight into the end products and solutions that are possible.
Sports and social provided great opportunities to spend time with my colleagues outside of office hours, including sporting leagues and social get-togethers. Everyone in the office was phenomenally helpful, if there’s something I was unsure of or didn’t understand, they would be happy go over it with me.
PUNCH encourages its employees to take part in events for the general health and wellbeing of employees, such as the Curagh-to-Curagh charity cycle for Cancer trials Ireland.
The on-site and practical experience I gained from this internship with PUNCH is something that every engineer should have.
“My internship at PUNCH was an incredibly rewarding experience that provided me with exposure to structural and civil engineering. From day one, I was welcomed into a collaborative team that encouraged me to get involved in every area of the company. I had the opportunity to work on diverse projects. I worked on varied tasks from member design and load takedowns, to creating mobility management plans and health and safety plans. I learned to use valuable softwares like Revit, Tekla and Tedds. I visited multiple sites to inspect rebar, slabs, columns and piles. On different projects there were opportunities for me to take responsibility. I particularly enjoyed visiting a site where I designed the boundary wall. Seeing the design through all the stages was really rewarding. The mentorship and guidance I received from working with PUNCH has been invaluable and has helped me to grow both professionally and personally.”
“My name is Aine, and I am a Civil Engineering student in UL. PUNCH took me on as an intern for my 8-month placement and the experience which I’ve gained whilst here has exceeded my expectations. At PUNCH I was given the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on a huge number and range of projects, all of whom were happy to answer questions and give guidance on any topic.
I was in the structures department and have gained invaluable experience creating my own structural designs and getting to see some of these being built on site. I was given a taste of everything which allowed me to gain a much clearer insight into the various paths I could take in this career and what I’d like to pursue.
PUNCH also have a Sports & Social team who organise activities and days out for the staff. They hold various celebrations and coffee mornings throughout the year which gives you the chance to take a break and interact with your colleagues.
I am very thankful for the guidance and opportunities which I’ve received throughout my time with PUNCH, I really enjoyed my internship, and I genuinely don’t think I could have gained a better experience of the field.”
“My name is Sinead and I’m currently studying in UCC doing Civil & Structural Engineering. Some of the projects I worked on include Revit model and Tekla model of Farranree Sheltered Housing project, I also took renders of a project in Abuja Nigeria which is in the process of becoming an Irish embassy. I updated some survey reports and site visit reports and went on site many times to witness the development of different projects such as a brand-new housing estate in Mallow called Rose Hill and renovation of Tallyho House, Castletown send, Co. Cork. I also had the opportunity to attend online meetings and observe the inner workings of a successful engineering company. Overall, my internship was a valuable learning experience that allowed me to develop new skills and gain practical experience in the field of Engineering. I thank the entire team at PUNCH for their support and guidance during my internship, everyone was so kind and welcoming to me every day.
“My name is Darragh Corcoran and I’m currently studying in UL doing civil engineering. I went on placement with PUNCH, and I can’t speak highly enough of them. I was made feel welcome the minute I stepped in the door and wasn’t treated like a student but as an engineer. PUNCH gives their co-op students the opportunity to work alongside fellow engineers which allow students to grow and learn as engineers. I was in the civils department of the company and really enjoyed designing Foul and stormwater networks and getting the opportunity to see these networks being built onsite. Working in the civils department allows students to witness the processes involved in getting jobs up and running and what procedures need to be undertaken. The sports and social team in PUNCH are very active and arrange activities from time to time. This was a very enjoyable part of my placement as I took part in activities like pitch and putt, quizzes and kayaking. Overall, I enjoyed my time at PUNCH and would recommend.”
