PUNCH is delighted to acknowledge and celebrate “International Women in Engineering Day” 23rd June 2024. Sadly, in the past Engineering has been a victim of stereotypical gender bias resulting in too few Women studying and practicing Engineering. We believe this is changing and can change further. But it is the responsibility of all those currently in Engineering to promote our wonderful profession to all potential Engineers regardless of gender or anything else.
At PUNCH we are very active in promoting Engineering as a career for women/girls. In the spirit of full disclosure, the percentage of female staff in PUNCH currently is 28% of which 22% are Engineers/Technicians. And within those numbers, our Dublin office for example, has 30% female Engineers/Technicians. While these numbers are significantly higher than the average in the Irish construction sector, they need to be higher and we are committed to doing that. Finally, we wish to acknowledge and thank the women in PUNCH for the wonderful contribution they all make to our company and we hope all enjoy and celebrate International Women in Engineering Day 2024.
At PUNCH, we understand the value of education. That’s why we support our staff who wish to undertake further education and training. We encourage staff members to maintain their Continuous Professional Development (CPD) accreditations with Engineers Ireland. We also continue to offer training in sustainable design and construction through seminars, in-house lectures, and external training programmes. We promote the achievement of professional titles with institutions such as Engineers Ireland, the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland, the Institute of Structural Engineers, and the Institute of Civil Engineers.
