Project Civil Engineer – Cork

PUNCH Consulting Engineers has a vacancy for a Project Civil Engineer. The position is available at our Cork offices.

Job Description

As a Project Design Engineer, you will work under the guidance of senior engineers to advance your design skills, technical capability, and commercial awareness. You will contribute to the delivery of both small and large‑scale civil engineering projects, with a strong focus on concept, preliminary and detailed civil design. This aligns with typical design engineer roles that emphasise generating design models, simulations, and technical drawings. You will work independently on smaller design projects independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams on a wide range of projects including landmark national developments in both the public and private sectors.

During your time with PUNCH, you will receive structured on‑the‑job training and participate in our CPD programme held during office hours. You will also be expected to engage in CPD outside of office hours through lectures, seminars, and independent reading.

Candidate Specification

  • A degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum of four years’ postgraduate experience
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Word, Excel with civil design tools such as AutoCAD skills + design software packages including Causeway Flow, Civil 3d, Junctions 9, HEC-RAS, EPANet- software commonly required in design-centred roles.
  • Ability to produce and review design drawings, CAD models, simulations, and technical reports, consistent with industry design engineer responsibilities.
  • Ability to identify and apply appropriate scientific methods to solve engineering problems plus knowledge of the limitations of established best practice as defined by Standards and Codes.
  • Plan and manage the use of human and physical resources for your projects.
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Understanding of the Irish regulatory and policy issues
  • Appreciation of the full project delivery lifecycle, including design, tender documentation, procurement and GCCC contract processes
  • Knowledge of costing and options appraisal
  • Knowledge and understanding of how projects are financed and how funds are obtained and managed
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and achieving Chartered Status with Engineers Ireland or equivalent.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with the ability to adapt to changing project requirements
