Winner of the RIAI Silver Medal for Housing in 2019 and the RIAI Best Housing Project in 2014, Southill Older Persons Housing is a Sheltered Housing Development by Limerick City Council. PUNCH delivered comprehensive Civil and Structural engineering design services for this initiative.
The development features 2-3 storey residential units thoughtfully arranged around a secure communal garden. The layout is designed to maximise the number of units on the challenging triangular site. It includes a total of 34 apartment units, comprising 13 one-bedroom apartments and 21 two-bedroom apartments. Additionally, there is a community building featuring meeting rooms and social spaces for residents, which also serves as a social hub for the broader community. A three-storey apartment block located at the corner near the public road enhances the streetscape and improves the public realm
This project is part of a larger regeneration effort aimed at uplifting the socially deprived Southill area. It is designed to provide modern, comfortable, and secure housing for vulnerable elderly individuals from the surrounding neighbourhoods. The development prioritises the needs of its intended occupants, incorporating a gated community layout to ensure a high level of security.
