Tully Park Phase 2 is a public realm initiative situated in the heart of the Cherrywood Strategic Development Zone (SDZ), under the jurisdiction of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. The park’s design is centred around a National Monument, consisting of the archaeologically significant remains of Tully Church and its accompanying graveyard.
This is a Class 1 park offering vital leisure amenities for visitors of all ages and abilities. The completed park features extensive pathways, planting initiatives to enhance biodiversity, a new pavilion building, and playgrounds suitable for children of all ages.
PUNCH developed a Civil 3D model to analyse the cut and fill volumes for the reengineered slopes at the site. The civil engineering design incorporated herringbone drainage within the reengineered slopes and plateaus of the park. Given the site’s hydrogeological significance for local and regional aquifers, this drainage was directed to a highly porous area on-site to facilitate full infiltration and recharge the aquifer.
Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) were integral to this design, and every opportunity to implement SuDS was used. The design included filter drains, swales, and porous asphalt for the parking bays. Efforts were made to minimise hard surfacing wherever possible.
PUNCH also took charge of conservation engineering for the repair work on the wall that encloses Tully Church and Graveyard.
