Wellpark Retail Centre

This 33,000m2 multi-use development comprised residential, retail, cinema units and a 5-star hotel (the G Hotel). The scheme was constructed on a phased basis, commencing with the residential element, and completed with the opening of the internationally renowned G Hotel.

The site is located overlooking the scenic Lough Atalia, and water retaining basement construction for the car park was a key design requirement. It is a multistorey development annexed to an existing retail park. The development consists of 10,000m2 underground car parking, 1,500m2 of retail units, 3,200m2 of ground floor retail units, first floor landmark cinema development, and second floor cinema operating facilities including projection rooms and offices.

The G Hotel was initially designed as an office building and construction commenced accordingly on those details. The late change into a 5-star hotel resulted in key challenges for the design team and contractor, which were successfully met. Douglas Wallace collaborated with design director, Philip Treacy, to create a five-star hotel interior unlike anything seen before in Ireland.

Since 2018, PUNCH has been working with new owners Alanis on alterations to the development, including refits to retail units, subdivision of units, and expansion of the G Hotel.
