- Best Public Building & Best Sustainable Building at the RIAI Awards 2016
- 2016 Fit Out Project of the year in the public Sector & An Award for Excellence in Sustainablity
The new headquarters for Roscommon County Council is located in Roscommon town and the 6,700m2 development involves the construction of new office accommodation, new council chambers and facilities for elected members.
The design is for a modern concrete framed building which utilizes exposed concrete finishes both internally and externally, which requires a very high level of specification and workmanship. The structural frame is a combination of insitu flat slab and insitu beam and slab construction, with steelwork at roof level and over the large span council chamber area.
The project involved the retention and integration into the design of fragments of existing stone walls of a 19th century jail. In addition, the project involved works to a Protected Structure – the Courthouse, as well as the partial demolition of a 1960’s annexe and the limited-refurbishment of the original courthouse structure.
Ancillary works included the design and construction of surface car parking both adjacent to and remote from the site.
Voted Best Public Building & Best Sustainable Building at the RIAI Awards 2016.
