Listowel Primary Care Centre

Listowel Primary Care Centre is a purpose built facility in the centre of Listowel. The facility provides a primary care centre for the town and surrounding area. The building is 2100m2 over 2 stories.

The development is in line with the National Health Strategy. The principle function of the building is to amalgamate existing GP practices with accommodation for the Health Service Executive, including primary care, clinical support services, administration and staff facilities. The primary care facilities include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, health care assistants, and administration. There is an open plan provision on the ground floor to allow for future expansion within the existing foot-print and the client has achieved planning for a further 500mextension.

PUNCH acted as Civil and Structural Engineers for this project. The structure is a two story structure, consisting load bearing blockwork and precast hollowcore first floor structure. The roof is a lightweight steel structure, and steel frames with slimflor construction were used to provide the open plan section at ground floor for future expansion.

Part of the site comprised the convent graveyard, which had been exhumed. There were also a number of shallow land drains across the site. The foundations were formed on top of lean mix to formation, and the ground floor slab was suspended.

The external work to the site included the external drainage and associated site works, namely the roads infrastructure as well as the works associated with the boundary stone walls, which are up to 4m in height. These walls were in varying condition. The walls were refurbished where possible and reconstructed to match existing in others.
