Cork Airport Awards Contract for new Solar Carport Construction

Cork Airport has awarded the contract for Ireland’s largest solar-powered carport to Greenvolt Next. The new solar carport, which is being constructed over the existing Holiday Blue carpark, will generate 20% of the airport’s electricity needs.

PUNCH Consulting Engineers was delighted to provide civil engineering planning stage design services on the project that will see the installation of 3,956 photovoltaic solar panels upon the overhead roof/canopy structure in the existing carpark. The structure will provide shelter for 720 vehicles while generating over 1.5GWh of renewable energy annually.

This development will have a significant sustainable impact for the airport, reducing C0₂ emissions by 355,056kg each year. The project is set to go live in August 2027.
