Edel House

PUNCH was retained as Civil and Structural Engineers for the Edel House project which involved the provision of a new 4-storey block of sheltered accommodation and renovations to an existing 2-storey facility on Grattan Street, Cork.

The project was executed in two phases: Phase 1 included the construction of 27 studio and 3 family units, while Phase 2 focused on renovating existing family units.

Due to the site’s historical significance, an archaeological dig was conducted before construction, leading to the use of a piled raft foundation to minimise excavation impacts.

The 0.16-hectare urban brownfield site is surrounded by accommodation blocks, a park, and a laneway, with utility connections established through a public sewer network.
