PUNCH Consulting Engineers was appointed Civil & Structural Engineers for this Strategic Housing Development (SHD) project comprising the construction of 190 residential units (109No. new two-storey detached, semi-detached and terrace timber frame housing units, 81no. units as part of the apartment block, and 15 duplex units), construction of a section of Greenway route, including associated site development works.
The varying ground conditions across the site resulted in a variety of foundation solutions; the apartment blocks
were piled, while the house foundations were a combination of strip foundations and rafts. Engineered ground
improvements were initiated across the southern section of the site, and the houses in this area were on strip
foundations over engineered fill.
The apartments are constructed from a concrete frame, which is a combination of precast columns and walls
with in-situ flat slabs. There are transfer structures in place to transfer the wind loading to the foundations, and
a detailed stability analysis was undertaken.
