Carlow County Council (CCC) assigned a project team, spearheaded by PUNCH Consulting Engineers, to conduct a Feasibility Study for the development of the Proposed Barrow Valley Greenway within a specified study area.
The Barrow Valley Greenway is set to begin north of Leighlinbridge and extend to the north of New Ross, covering approximately 40 kilometres. This greenway aims to connect to the Regional Greenway Network.
The feasibility study involved comprehensive desktop research, multiple site visits, workshops, and discussions with CCC and other stakeholders. It included ecological assessments and appraisals to evaluate the feasibility and constraints related to the proposed greenway development. The study focused on providing a high-quality greenway primarily along the disused railway line from Bagenalstown to Palace East, which will link communities and various destinations within and beyond the study area. Additional route options, a constraints study, and a strategic assessment report were also developed for CCC.
