PUNCH Consulting Engineers were commissioned by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to carry out a hydrological investigation of a stream running through the eastern side of Marlay Park in Dublin City. The purpose of this study was to estimate drought, flood and seasonal average discharge rates of the stream in Marlay Park. This data was used to assess the feasibility of constructing an Artificial White Water Course.
As part of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), the EPA has established a website that will provide users with flow duration curves for both gauged and ungauged catchments. This data provided a basis for estimating the potential water yields of the water course and in particular, the seasonal variability of the potential abstraction rates from the water course for use in the proposed artificial white water course.
This study is predominately a desktop study and its findings will be of benefit to the design team of a new artificial white water course. It was also concluded that 12 months of flow monitoring should take place.
