Project Description

PUNCH provided Civil Engineering services, including SWEPT Path analysis, and road and drainage design to two Solar PV projects for North Ayrshire Council in Scotland. Nethermains, 7.48MWp and Shewalton, 5MWp solar farms were built over historical landfills.

Environmental considerations were key to the project, considering neighbouring Wildlife Reserve, tree replacements, landscaping and wildlife/badgers at the Nethermains site, in addition to the site being a former landfill.

Stakeholder engagement and community liaison was critical to the project, as the teams provided local students the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience of the construction, operation and maintenance of Solar Farms by hosting guest speakers at Ayrshire College, and on site, holding apprenticeship drives, and site visits over the project cycle.
