This project consists of the extension and internal refurbishment of the Edward Lawson Centre building in North Lanarkshire. The Community Centre is being refurbished and converted into a new school for children with additional needs. PUNCH Consulting Engineering was appointed to provide structural engineering services to the single-storey extension and associated structural alterations.
Regarding the extension, the team prepared the design, detailing and specifications for the foundations, ground floor slab, primary and secondary steel elements, steel and timber connections, timber kit cladding, internal partitions and roof rafters.
For the building’s alterations, the team surveyed the existing structure, identified and provided repair details for existing damaged structural walls and rafters, prepared the design and detailing for new internal partition arrangements and designed and detailed all stability elements.
SER Certification was managed by PUNCH. Furthermore, PUNCH was appointed at construction stage to design and detail structural elements associated with the Client’s proposal changes as well as carry out SER recertification works upon project completion.
