Strathclyde Park Finishing Tower

The existing Timing Tower structure, erected in 1986, is located on an island within Strathclyde Loch and contains 4 levels of enclosed accommodation with a view along the length of the Loch and the rowing course.

PUNCH was employed to provide structural engineering services in order to facilitate the internal and external demolition of the existing glazing system and reinforced concrete stairs, internal structural alterations and the internal extensions to floor plates.

As part of this project, a top-hung cantilevered steel-framed glazing support system was designed and detailed utilising the BIM packages, Fastrak Building Designer and AutoDesk Revit Structure.

The finished project satisfied the new F.I.S.A. regulations and provided the following items, all located within an enclosed weather-proof structure:

  • 3 seats at 3 levels for the Jury and Timing Officials.
  • Timing equipment and data processing
  • Photo-finish viewing and printing equipment

To facilitate the above, the 3rd floor was extended to form a new enclosed space of approximately 40m².
